For transform kif into hashish and to enjoy the typical sophisticated experience it is necessary to subject large quantities of raw material to the heat: the temperature causes the trichomes to fuse together, giving the typical appearance and color of hash, which has slightly different effects than kief.
Kief Drug Effects and Use
When you hear about the kief plant as if it were a separate species, it is wrong: in reality it is just a concentrate of trichomes of marijuana. So the effect you feel when taking kif is similar to the one you feel with normal "joints", but amplified, both in its stoned and high aspects. While the average content of THC and CBD cannabinoids in the buds is around 25%, in the kief there is double (50%)! And this alone is enough to understand what its pleasant side is, to return to the etymology.
How do you use kief? Typically this fine powder is used in addition to the “classic” herb to amplify the effects. Or you can use the kief drug mixing it for example with tobacco in a cigarette. But with kif you can do many other things! Why not add it, for example, to a hot drink like a latte? Or why not use it to prepare a butter to make cakes with? So far we have rightly focused on the use of kief itself, but clearly many extract it to use as raw material for preparing hash by pressing and heating it.
How is kif obtained?
Extracting the kief from cannabis is very simple, you just need to equip yourself with a commonly used tool called grinder, which is nothing more than a herb grinder.As you grind your cannabis, some of the trichomes will remain attached to the buds but most will settle to the bottom covering the resin grinder.
They are also available on the market special grinders to make it easier to collect kief: these tools are equipped with a filter and compartments: during grinding the plant residues are separated from the kief so that it can be collected easily.
Of course, you will need to grind quite a bit to produce kif this way, but it is definitely worth it. simplest and cheapest method when you want to consume this cannabis product as an occasional treat.
There is also a another method, more productive, for those who are particularly interested in producing kief and want to have a certain amount of product immediately. You need to equip yourself with a specific kief box, which is actually a kind of sieve with compartments.
The cannabis buds are placed in the upper compartment. Shaking the box vigorously, the sieve will separate the buds from the trichomes leaving the raw material of the kif on the bottom. In this way it is possible to have a lot of product right away. The kif box can also be self-build using a tightly woven net to be placed over a dark surface. The dark background allows you to better see the trichomes that have settled after shaking and collect them easily.
How to Decarboxylate Kief
When you want to use kif to prepare butters, desserts or to put it in coffee it is better before decarboxylate it. Here's how to do it:
- Sprinkle the kief on a baking tray covered with baking paper, trying to do it as uniformly as possible.
- The kief should be placed in a preheated oven at 120 degrees for 15, maximum 20 minutes. Be careful not to go over the times.
- Halfway through "cooking" it's best to give it a good mixed.
